Robert L. ‘Artie’ Shaw

Robert L. “Artie” Shaw, 90, a resident of Elkins, passed away Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, at his home.

He was born Feb. 20, 1927, at Elkins, a son of the late John F. and LeNora Gibson Shaw.

He was formerly married to Marilyn Colleen Brown.

He is survived by one son, Gary Shaw and wife, Debbie, of Huddleston, Virginia; five daughters, Beverly Woods and husband, Rodney, of Elkins, Nancy Aldridge of Fulton, New York, Cindy Ulrich of Elkins, Robin Fair and husband, Matt, of Elkins, and Linda Almaroad and husband, Jerry, of Valley Head. One sister, Betty Stadd of Sallisaw, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Jeremiah, Jeffrey, Abby, Christal, Jaime, Sandy, Chelsea, Sabrina, Brent, Gary Lee, Holly, Jessica, Melissa, Sarah and Kristi; great-grandchildren, Brett, Zeida, Lacie, Xander, Katelyn and Samantha, Dylan, Billy Jack, Paul, Kaden, Autumn, David, Torin, Haley, Hannah, Halayna, Leif, Anthony, Ashleigh, Jeana, Juleigh, Lucian and Xavia, Ashlynn, Lily, Erin, Ellie and Tatum; and one great-great-granddaughter, Kimmie, also survive.

Also preceding him in death were one infant son; son-in-law, William Ulrich; one brother, John “June” Shaw; two grandchildren, Heather and William; and one great-granddaughter, Marley.

“Artie” was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during World War II and had retired from Western Maryland Railroad where he worked in the sign shop. He had coached and was an official of church league basketball and was an assistant football coach to Coach Wimer in 1951. He was a member of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion for 33 years and was affiliated with the Elkins United Brethren Church.

Friends were received from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Crystal Springs Community Church. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today from the church with Pastor David Collins officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Elkins where full military rites will be accorded by members of the Navy Honor Guard, H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and the Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veteran of Foreign Wars. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Hospice, 1600 Crim Ave., Belington, WV 26250 in memory of Artie.
