Annis K. Martin

Annis K. Martin died in Raleigh, North Carolina, Nov. 21, 2017, with family by her bedside. Born to Lola Goal King and Bruce F. King Sr. in Greensboro, North Carolina, she grew up in North Carolina. She spent her married life and widowhood in Elkins

before moving to Raleigh to be near her brother’s family and her son. She was

preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Homer D. Martin Sr.; sisters, Helen and Margaret King; and brother, Bruce F. King Jr.

Mrs. Martin is survived by her son, Marty Martin; aunt, Katherine K. Walls; brothers-in-law, Carroll Martin and Don Martin; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was a beloved aunt to Judy Martin Riffee, Sarah Martin Kane, Laura Joan Martin Davison and Clark Martin.

A memorial service will be held on her birthday, Dec. 13, at 3 p.m. at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church in Raleigh, North Carolina and broadcast on its website. A private graveside service will be held later in Elkins.

Among her last wishes was to share this admonition: “The heaviest thing to carry is a grudge. Choose forgiveness.”
