Paul Wilson Sponaugle

Paul Wilson Sponaugle, 88, a former resident of Randolph County, and more recently a resident of the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home at Charlotte Hall, Maryland, departed this life early Wednesday morning, Jan. 3, 2018, at the Veterans Home.

He was born Saturday, Aug. 10, 1929, at Galloway, a son of the late Delbert and Ruth Emma Channell Sponaugle.

During 1953, he was married to the former Dorothy Mae Harris, who preceded him in death during 1992.

Surviving are two daughters, Brenda June Lamb of Rutherfordton, North Carolina, and Estena Lee Elswick of Valrico, Florida; eight grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a special niece and nephew in the Randolph and Barbour county area.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Preceding him in death are one daughter, Paula Mae Sponaugle; one brother, Robert Dale Sponaugle; one grandchild Brenda Lee Lamb; and two great-grandchildren.

He attended the one-room school at Files Creek and Beverly High School. He was a very hard worker as a truck driver working in construction; he looked forward to making trips back to West Virginia to visit. Paul especially enjoyed dancing, and most of all, he was a loving father.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home, Tuesday, Jan. 9, at 11 a.m. Pastor L. Scott Hamby will officiate, and interment will follow at the Elkins Memorial Gardens on the Country Club Road, Elkins, with full military honors being accorded by members of the West Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard Program, the H.W. Daniels Post 29, American Legion and the Tygart Valley Post 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
