Donald E. Johnson, 74, of Saint Mary’s, passed away Aug. 22, 2018, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.
Donald was born June 3, 1944, in Clarksburg, a son of the late Orville and Helen Janes Johnson.
He was an operating engineer with I.U.O.E. Local 132 of Charleston for over 25 years and was a U.S. Navy Seabee veteran serving during the Vietnam Era. He was an active volunteer for many years with Pleasant’s County 4-H as instructor for shooting sports and West Virginia volunteer hunter ed instructor for WVDNR, receiving Volunteer Instructor of the Year in 2009. He also served as boating education instructor for the state of West Virginia. He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge of St. Marys 41 and Ben Bey Grotto. He also loved to camp and fish.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sheila Walker Johnson; four children, Wendy Johnson of St. Marys, Kimberly Collins of Morgantown, Kristi Groves and husband, Joe, of Elkins and Donald W. Johnson of York, Pennsylvania; three granddaughters; two great-grandsons; one sister, Janice Carder of Fairmont; one brother, Terry Johnson of Parkersburg; and best friend, J.R. Janes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Hodges and Ruth Elder; and infant brother, John Johnson.
Funeral services will be Monday, Aug. 27, at 11 a.m. at Pine Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Bryan Knight officiating with military rites following by the American Legion Post 15.
Burial will follow at the convenience of the family at Riverview Cemetery, Williamstown.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-8 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg and Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.
