Janice K. Maddy
Janice K. Maddy was reunited with her loving parents, Ralph M. “Skip” and Evelyn R. (Jack) Dunbrack, on July 31, 2018, when she peacefully passed at her home on Airport Hill embraced in the hands of her daughters, Ronda and Michelle “Meme.”
Born May 30, 1949, Janice was a lifelong resident of Marlinton where she devoted 35 years to her career at the Department of Highways. After her retirement, her travels allowed her the ability to brighten the lives of others, having never met a stranger. She loved shopping, visiting with loved ones and making everyone laugh.
With her loving and generous heart, Janice was always giving to others. Even while facing her own challenges, her selfless and compassionate nature was reaching out to others to lift them during their time of need. Her ability to bring a smile and lift spirits through her laughter was truly her gift! Her spunky personality and zest for life had her talking to everyone she met and within moments she would share stories of her pride and joy as a grandmother to six granddaughters, Kaytlyn, Allison, Morgan, Madison, Carleigh and Riley (daughters of Steve and Ronda VanReenen); two grandsons, Samuel and Mitchell (Meme’s sons); and two great-grandchildren, Breelyn and Bryce. She leaves her loving memories also to be shared by her niece’s family, Cheryl Jonese (David) and children, Kachine, Lakota and Makeia (who lovingly and appropriately call her “Crazy J”).
A celebration of her life will be held in the spring, giving all those that adore her time to share stories and continue the laughter, as would be her final wish for us all. Her legacy of an encouraging spirit, love of family and unshakeable resolve will live on through all those she touched.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her name to St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, WV in appreciation for the gracious care provided her.
