James D. Filbey
James Dudley Filbey, known to friends as “Dud,” formerly residing in Buckhannon, passed away on Sept. 8, 2018, at the age of 86 years.
He was born Sept. 23, 1931, in Jefferson, Pennsylvania, a son of the late James O. and Gertrude Pollock Filbey.
Dud served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He worked most of his life as a heavy equipment mechanic in the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 825. Dud was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Conservative Caucus. He enjoyed hunting, land preservation, learning and supporting the constitution.
Dud is survived by his wife, Dorothy Ladner Filbey; sister, Jessie Lee Smolsky; four children, Stephen M. Filbey and wife, Ellen, of Alloway, New Jersey, Karen Nocella of Pottstown, Pennsylvania, Lisa Filbey and husband, Thomas Bryant, of Franklinville, New Jersey, and James Filbey Jr.; four grandchildren, Gregory Stephen Filbey of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Stephanie Jean Filbey of Morgantown, Lauren Harrington and husband, Matthew, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Jeffrey Nocella and wife, Kelly, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; two great-grandchildren, Ray Richard Harrington and Lee Duvall Harrington.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Joann Mills; and his son-in-law, Richard Nocella.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 1 p.m. at the Greene County Memorial Park, 1003 Jefferson Rd., Waynesburg, PA 15370.
