Martha L. Shockey Thornhill, 92, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018, in a hospice care unit. She entered the unit Aug. 11, because of declining health.
Martha was born June 3, 1926, at Long, a daughter of the late Harrison and Missouri Currence Shockey.
She graduated from Coalton High School with the class of 1944 them went on to graduate from the Clarksburg Business College and found employment at Westinghouse Electric Co. in Clarksburg.
This is where she met Billy Thornhill, a farmer from Iowa. They were married July 27, 1946. They lived in Des Moines, Iowa, for many years then moved to Kansas City, Missouri to be near their daughter.
Surviving besides her husband is one con, Micheal and his wife, Janie, of San Diego, California; one son-in-law, Phil Fox; one brother, Neal Shockey and wife, Edna, of Mabie; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Richard Craig of California; and one daughter, Pamela Thornhill Fox of Kansas City. Also preceding her in death were four brothers, Howard, Bernard, Richard and Jacob Lee; and five sisters, Edith Pastine, Maudaline Carver, Mary Chidester, Ada Virginia Shockey and Myrtle Weese.
She was cremated according to her wishes.
The Souder Family Funeral Home in Kansas City, Mo 64155 was in charge of the arrangements.
A private memorial service was held Sunday, Sept. 9, at their home in Missouri.
