Mary L. Norton

Mary Lecko Norton, 82, a former resident of Beverly, and for the past two months, she made her home with her daughter in Junior, passed away Friday, Aug. 31, 2018, at home surrounded by her family and under the care of West Virginia Caring.

Mary was born on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 1936, in Terryville, Connecticut, a daughter of the late Alexander Lecko and Theodozia Rewak Lecko.

On June 23, 1956, in Bristol, Connecticut, she was married to Robert “Bob” Norton, who survives. They had celebrated 62 years of marriage.

Also left to cherish Mary’s memory are three children, Thomas Norton of Margate, Florida, Amy Mueller and husband, John, of Junior and Jim Norton and wife, Johannah of Butler, Pennsylvania; two brothers, Peter Lecko of California, and Vladimir “Walter” Lecko of Wisconsin; three grandchildren, Liliana Norton, Elliana Norton and Erin Mueller; one great-granddaughter, Alana Mueller; 12 nieces and nephews; and 14 great nieces and nephews.

Preceding Mary in death besides her parent were four brothers, Michael, John, Connie and Alec Lecko; and one sister, Justina Keleck.

Mary was a graduate of Terryville High School in Connecticut. She had been employed as an industrial seamstress for United Fabricants, Mary’s Greenhouse in Elkins, co-owner of Kiccs Car Stereo in Elkins and as a hostess at McDonalds. Her favorite job was while working at Crand’s Candy Castle in Connecticut. She was an avid reader of Westerns and enjoyed tending to her flowers. Mary was an incredible artist in the medium of needlepoint. She loved to make pieces for people as gifts for important life events. Mary was a member of the Elkins congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for 32 years and more recently the Philippi congregation. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the ICU nurses at Davis Medical Center and the West Virginia Caring team, especially Roger Burdette and Nicole Barker.

Mary’s request for cremation was honored. A memorial service will be conducted at Elkins Kingdom Hall Saturday, Sept. 8, at 3 p.m.
