John A. DeMotto

John Anthony DeMotto, 69, a resident of Elkins, departed this life Monday evening, Dec. 3, 2018, at the Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center at Elkins. He had been in declining health.

He was born Wednesday, Nov. 23, 1949, at Elkins, a son of Patricia DeMotto Zirkle, who survives at Elkins.

He was previously married to the former Diane Sanders, who survives.

Also surviving are one son, Jeremy Walker DeMotto of Washington State; one daughter, Angela Marie Hart and husband Jeff of Elkins; three brothers, David Michael Zirkle, Richard Leon “Rick” Zirkle and Foreman Benjamin “Benny” Zirkle Jr., all of Coalton; three grandchildren, Nathan, Elliott and Andrew Hart, all of Elkins; and three aunts, Anita Goddin, Betty Ross and Mary Jo DeMotto, all of Elkins.

Preceding him in death are his grandparents, Joseph and Marietta DeMotto whom he dearly loved and his stepfather, Foreman Benjamin “Ben” Zirkle Sr.

He was a graduate of Coalton High School, with the class of 1967 and attended Potomac State College. He was a heavy equipment mechanic and a truck driver and later was a barber in Elkins. He was a member of the Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church. He was a sports enthusiast and an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 9-10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at which time he will be moved to the Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church at Coalton where the Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. The Rev. Father Jim O’Conner will be the Presider, and interment will follow at the Saint Brendan Cemetery at Elkins.
