Russell ‘Bud’ Day


Russell Ray “Bud” Day, 85, of Riverton, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018, at Cortland Acres Nursing Home.

He was born on Oct. 29, 1933, in Key, the son of the late Russell and Elsie (Harper) Day.

On Nov. 6, 1956, Ray married Joyce Elaine (Hedrick) Day, who preceded him in death on May 25, 2015.

Mr. Day attended Dixie Schoolhouse and was a 1952 graduate of Circlevile High School. He retired from Department of Highways and had delivered The Inter-Mountain and the Clarksburg Exponent for more than 20 years. He was a founding member and active with North Fork Rescue Squad for more than 30 years. Ray was a former commander of American Legion Post 183.

Mr. Day is survived by three daughters, Sharon Bell (Leslie) of Riverton, Diana Kessel (Aaron) of Maysville and Karen Greenawalt (Timothy) of Moorefield; two sons, Carl Day (Sheryl) of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, and Larry Day of Riverton; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a stepson, Danny “Cook” Hedrick; and infant great-grandson; and four brothers, Hubert Day, Roy Jacob Day, Owen Day and Jimmie Harper.

Mr. Day’s family will receive friends on Monday, Dec. 3, from 4-8 p.m. at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Funeral services will be on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Theodore Bennett officiating. Interment will be in North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton with Military Honors conducted by the Pendleton County Veterans Honor Guard.
