Rodea Ellen Miller

MILLER

Rodea Ellen Miller, 85 years, a resident of Silver Spring, Maryland, and more recently a resident of Porterwood, departed this life Thursday, May 23, 2019, at Cortland Acres at Thomas.

She was born Saturday, Oct. 7, 1933, at Parsons, a daughter of the late Ralph and Ruth DeVilder Miller.

Surviving are her sister, Becky Miller; and a “special sister”, Shorty Hill, both of Kinston, N.C.; her aunt, Nola DeVilder; and several cousins.

Preceding her in death is her sister, Nancy Lou Miller.

Roeda was a graduate of Parsons high School with the class of 1951. She began her career with Plummer Baker’s grocery store and the Tucker County Bank in Parsons. She was also employed by the Pension and Welfare Benefits Administration, U.S. Department of Labor in Washington, D.C., from which she retired in 2010.

Roeda was proud to be a member of the Order of Eastern Star for 67 years, with dual membership in Newburg Chapter No. 143 and Parsons Chapter No. 91. She dearly loved the O.E.S. having served as Worthy Matron and chaired most, if not all the other offices. The highlight of her 67 years with this organization was her appointment to serve as Grand Warder of the Grand Chapter of West Virginia in 2016-2017. She fulfilled her duties with dignity and grace as Grand Representative to several states.

Until the time of her death, Roeda traveled widely throughout the state visiting the local chapters during Grand Visitations.

She enjoyed crafts, particularly crocheting, counted cross-stitch and plastic canvas and she was an accomplished seamstress. She was Methodist by faith.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. On Tuesday evening at 5 p.m., the West Virginia Grand Family of 2016-2017 will present the Order of the Eastern Star service. All are invited to attend.

Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday morning, May 29, 2019, at 11 a.m. The Reverend Neil Parsons will officiate, and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Roeda Ellen Miller.
