Willidene Marsh

Willidene Mae Marsh, 88, a resident of Philippi, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at her home.

Willidene was born Sept. 28, 1930, in Moatsville, a daughter of the late Ernest Cleophus Marsh and Manda Margaret (Annon) Marsh Bolyard and stepfather, Paul R. Bolyard.

Surviving is sister, Wilma L. Stump and husband, David, of Marrietta, Ohio; brother, Ernest Ray Marsh and wife, Cathy, of Given; aunt, Patricia True, who she called her sister; dear friend, Martha Gould; granddaughters, Denise R. Jones Sublett and husband, Scott, of Philippi and Michelle D. Jones McElwain and husband, Ricky, of Keyser; great-grandchildren, Emily Jade McElwain, Jarrod Thomas McElwain, Sawyer Jones Sublett and Elliott Graeme Sublett; nephew, Jason Marsh of Elkview; niece, Stephanie Fontanella and husband, PJ, of Lake Jackson, Texas; and great-nieces, Cierra Wilson, Lillian, Ava, Fontanella and Evelyne Marsh.

Having been preceded in death by her parents she was also preceded in death by her soulmate and life partner, Thomas K. Wolfe, who passed away on Feb. 7, 2008.

Willidene graduated as valedictorian from Philippi High School with the class of 1948. She attended several banking courses and graduated from the West Virginia School of Banking and West Virginia Life Insurance.

Willidene worked at the Farmers Supply from 1948-1955, CIA in Washington, D.C. from 1955-1957, Wolfe and Co. in Philippi from 1957-1970 and First National Bank in Philippi from 1970- 1996 at which time she happily retired.

Willidene loved to travel and has done so extensively, making several trips including those to Hong Kong, Mexico, Alaska and Hawaii. She enjoyed going out to eat, shopping, traveling, reading, making jewelry and sewing and especially spending time with her family and friends.

Willidene loved the color blue and birds. She was a Methodist by faith and was a member of the Cross Roads United Methodist Church in Tacy but regularly attended Crim Memorial United Methodist Church in Philippi.

Friends were received at the Wright Funeral Home, 220 N. Walnut St. in Philippi Friday and will be received today from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. the service hour with the Rev. Krysta Rexrode-Wolfe officiating. Interment will follow in the Crossroads Cemetery at Tacy.
