Holiday season is fast approaching for Barbour County residents

Hello from Barbour County and Happy Thanksgiving! May we be thankful all throughout the year, and not just in November.

The big holiday is fast approaching, and I’m not talking about Thanksgiving. Deer rifle season starts Monday morning! I wish all of the hunters good luck. Please be safe and have a great time.

There will be no school in Barbour County next week from Nov. 20-24 in order for students and teachers to celebrate Thanksgiving and deer season.

The last day for Philippi city league basketball sign ups will be today from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. This will be held in the basement of the old City Building in Philippi. Registration cost is $35.

The Polar Express is once again making stops at the North Pole, which is located in the Belington City Park. Everyone is invited to the North Pole to greet the train and let the kids know that the elves are excited they are here. The are two train runs Wednesday-Sunday evenings, with the train approaching the park at approximately 5:20 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. All help is appreciated, so stop by the park and have some Christmas fun!

I’ve notcied that Christmas decorations have been put up in Philippi and Belington. Everything looks nice and festive.

There will be a Primitive Bingo on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Philip Barbour Commons. All proceeds will benefit the freshman class at Philip Barbour.

The event is from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., and pictures with Santa will be available from noon until 2 p.m. Vendor tables are available for $10 each by calling Melissa Freeman at (304) 823-2280.

Also on Dec. 9, there will be a HOSA craft/bazaar bake sale at Philip Barbour High School beginning at 8 a.m. Stop by and support the PB kids, and maybe even do a little Christmas shopping while you’re there. If you are interested in a vendor table, contact Jill Weese at (304) 516-3138.

The Mikey Hart Memorial Scholarship Fund is doing a spaghetti fundraiser on Dec. 10 at the Belington Fire Department from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Cost will be $10. Since Mikey’s death, the scholarship fund has assisted 46 students from around the state. The proceeds will be helpful in replacing funds for this program.

The Covered Bridge Playhouse will be having a Christmas performance on Dec. 15-16 at the ABU auditorium, beginning at 7 p.m. each evening. This is the first play that has been produced in many years in Philippi, and looks to be an exciting time. “Yes, Virginia, There Is A Santa Claus” is under the direction of TJ Dalton.
