Blue & Gray in full swing
Hello from Barbour County!
Congratulations to the winners of the Belington Emergency Squad raffle. Dan Scott was the grand prize winner of the Dodge Challenger and Steve Shanabarger is the winner of the camper. Thanks to all who gave to a good cause.
The Blue & Grey Reunion is this weekend. This is a great time of excitement and re-enactment in downtown Philippi. Attendees can see live action in the streets as soldiers fire off their muskets and march across the covered bridge. Re-enactment on Sunday starts at 2 p.m. After the battle, there will be a live “amputation” at the tent by the red light.
Congratulations go out to the Philip Barbour Class of 2013. Graduation is at 1 p.m. today at the Barbour County Fairgrounds.
Chris Foster, a Barbour County 911 dispatcher, has a desire to help those in Oklahoma affected by the deadly tornadoes. There is a trailer at the courthouse in Philippi, where donations can be brought to help this need. At the end of June, she will be packing everything into a U-Haul and delivering the items to Oklahoma.
A fund has also been set up at Premier Bank for monetary donations. The account there is “Barbour County Relief for Oklahoma.”
With just a few days left in this school year, I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe summer!
Mark your calendars for June 8 for the city wide yard sale in Belington.
Tables will be set up at the Freedom Bank and there will be a flyer available for locations of yard sales throughout town.
Also on June 8, organizers will present the Annual Mikey Hart Memorial Poker Run. Registration is $10 per player from 9 a.m. to noon at the Belington Fire Department. The trip will take riders to five different fire departments throughout the day, ending at the VFW Park in Belington at 4 p.m. for food, music and drawings. This goes to benefit the scholarship fund in memory of Mikey Hart. For more information, call Judy at 304-823-2991.
The Philippi Knit Whits group meets the second Tuesday of every month at the Philippi Public Library. The next meeting will be on June 11 at 6 p.m. If you knit, crochet, do any type of needle work or just want to come and watch, you are invited.
If you have any Barbour County news that you would like to see in the Inter-Mountain, feel-free to give me a call at 304-823-2539. I love hearing from you!
With Memorial Day not too far behind us, I saw this quote that I wanted to share with you: “It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather, we should thank God that such men lived.” – George S. Patton Jr.
