Storyteller to appear at library

Happy spring from Barbour County! Hopefully the cold weather is behind us and we can look forward to flowers, gardening and warmth.

This years’ Winter Fair was moved from the original location of the Fairgrounds to the Belington Fire Department. There seemed to be a good turnout, with lots of crafters, food and fun.

If you’ve been to Philippi recently, you may have noticed that something is missing. Sheetz has been torn down to make way for construction of a brand new Sheetz. The new gas station/convenience store will be bigger and better than ever. Plans are to open in July.

Today, local storyteller Rebecca Ashburn will be at the Philippi Public Library beginning at 11 a.m. This is in celebration of Women’s History Month, celebrating women of character, courage and commitment.

Diecast Dragsters will be having a raceday on Sunday at the Belington Civic Center. Registration begins at 1 p.m. and racing starts at 2 p.m. There will be different divisions and this looks to be a lot of fun for everyone.

The second annual BACSO Basketball Tournament for Boys and Girls in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades will be starting Sunday. The tournament take place at the Philippi City Gym and is a benefit for the Barbour All County Sports Organization. Come out and have some fun while showing your support to our youth.

Philippi Public Library will have their preschool story hour on Wednesday from 10:30-11:30 am. They will be talking about dinosaur eggs.

Just a reminder that there will be a Basket Weave class at the Belington Fire Department on March 28 and 29 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Folks will be learning how to make baskets and also there will be stool/seat weaving available. For more information, call Lara at (304) 457-2375.

Also on March 29, there will be a 5k race to benefit the Philip Barbour cross country team. Registration is 8:30-9:30 a.m. and race time is 10 a.m.. The cost is $10. This will be held at the Barbour County Fairgrounds. Awards will be given to the top male and female runners in all age groups and overall male and female walker. This is a senior project, so come out and support PB students.

There will be a benefit ride against cancer for John Megimose on March 30. This is an ATV ride that will begin at the Junior Fire Department at 10 a.m. The cost is $10 per person. For more information, contact Travis at (304 823-1051.

On April 5, from 12-5 p.m., there will be a hotdog and hamburger benefit for Gary Booth. This will be held at Camp Popeye on Rt. 250. Gary is in need of a liver transplant and all support is appreciated.
