Easter services, events slated this week

Hello from Barbour County! Is it spring? Winter? We’re not really sure! Maybe I should just say Happy Easter!

There will be a planned power outage in the Belington and Junior areas. This will be on Tuesday beginning at 5 p.m. and will continue until Wednesday at 1:30 a.m. Being without electricity can be a trying time for some people, so please try to plan accordingly.

Central Chapel United Methodist Church would like to invite you to their Sunrise Services on Easter Sunday at 7 a.m. Breakfast will follow in the fellowship hall.

Central Chapel United Methodist Church will be having a yard sale on April 26 from 8 a.m. tp 30 p.m., rain or shine. This is to benefit the youth class. The church is located on Rt. 92 between Meadowville and Nestorville.

Crim Memorial Church in Philippi will be having a salad luncheon on Wednesday from 11 a.m. -2 p.m. The cost for this will be $7.

News from Philippi Public Library includes their Preschool Story Hour on Wednesday. The story will be “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle. Story Hour will also be on April 30, with the book “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom” by Bill Martin Jr. Times for both dates are from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Bring your children out for a time of reading fun. The library will be closed on Thursday for maintenance.

The Philippi Main Street Annual “Make It Shine Program” cleanup day will be held April 26, beginning at 9 a.m. All volunteers are asked to meet on the Courthouse Square to get their supplies and cleaning assignment. The Alderson Broaddus University Brass Choir will hold its 16th annual “Brass in the Grass” outdoor concert on April 27, at 3 p.m. under a performance shelter in the center of the ABU campus. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend and asked to bring a blanket or folding chair for lawn seating.

Philippi Main Street will be having their annual Art Stroll on April 29 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. This is an exhibition of local authors and artists. Any artist wishing to participate can contact Karen Larry at (304) 457-3773.

The Barbour County Barracudas swim team will be holding sign ups on May 3 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the AB pool. There is also a mandatory parents meeting at 10:30 a.m.

Also on May 3, the Philippi Main Street annual city wide yard sale will be from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Participates may rent a 10×10 foot space on the Courthouse Square or have a yard sale at their residence. A flier/map will also be created for this event. If you wish to be included in the flier you must register by April 23. Contact Tammy Stemple at the City Hall, (304) 457-3700 ext. 226.

Again, on May 3, there will be a Health Fair in the City Gym in Philippi from 7 a.m. until noon.

May 3 sure will sure be a busy day in Barbour County. There will be a 5K Run/Walk to benefit Relay for Life. This begins at the courthouse at 9 a.m., with registration from 8 a.m. – 9 a.m.

Kasson School is “calling all Eagles back to the nest” on May 3 for their semi-annual alumni basketball game. All former students and any current or former teachers, staff and administrators are welcome.
