School winding down in Barbour
Hello from Barbour County! The countdown is on! The last day of school for Barbour County students will be June 11. Graduation is set to take place today at noon at the Barbour County Fairgrounds. Congratulations to the Philip Barbour Class of 2014!
This weekend is also the re-enactment of the Blue & Gray in downtown Philippi. It promises to be an exciting time of parades, vendors, crafts, a scrimmage though the streets and even an “amputation” on the corner by the red light.
The West Virginia University Extension Service will be hosting a Food for Profit workshop on June 6 at the Belington Fire Department. This event is from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and the cost is $30. Lunch and educational materials are included with the registration fee.
Belington Public Library will be having their children’s movie night on June 6 at 5 p.m. Bring the kids out for a fun movie and snacks.
The Library will also host a book sale on June 7 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Book lovers will be able to fill a grocery bag with treasures for only $2. The Library will also offer a bake sale, hot dog dinner, and a silent auction, and be selling the famous tie-dyed t-shirts. All proceeds will benefit the Bookaneers team at the Tucker Community Foundation in Davis in September. If you would like to join their team, they would love to have you!
Upcoming food handlers classes in the county will be June 3 at Concord Church on the Talbott Road and also on June 12 at the Market Place in Philippi. Registration begins at 6 p.m. and the class starts at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $5 per person.
The 5th Annual Belington Town Yard Sale will take place on June 7, featuring spaces for rent available in the Freedom Bank parking lot. Also, if you would like to have a yard sale at your home and wish to have it announced in the flyer that will be available, contact Terri Kittle at (304) 823-1792.
Knit Whits will take place at Philippi Public Library on June 10 at 6:30 pm. It’s a great time to get together and work on crafts, or even learn a new one!
Looking ahead, Flag Day is June 14. The American Legion Post 96 will be having a flag-burning ceremony at the Belington Post Office.
This will take place at dusk. It’s a great time to bring your tattered flags and properly dispose of them.
