Gee to visit Elkins Railyard Saturday
West Virginia University friends, graduates and supporters will welcome WVU President E. Gordon Gee to Randolph County this month as part of his statewide tour.
The meet-and-greet will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Elkins Depot railyard. All are welcome to attend this free event.
By Labor Day, Gee will have completed his 55-county tour, essentially getting reacquainted with the state he has been away from for some 30 years, while listening and learning about the challenges and opportunities WVU and its citizens can affect.
“As I said upon my return to West Virginia University, the 1.8 million residents of the Mountain State must believe in their hearts and minds that West Virginia University is their university.” Gee stated.
“The message I am bringing in each community is that West Virginians are important to the vitality of our institution,” Gee said. “And in turn, our institution-a research, land-grant university-is important to the vitality of West Virginians.”
On his travels, Gee has been connecting with citizens in corner coffee shops, public schools, fairs and festivals, and ice cream shops. He has visited many WVU Extension offices and met with WVU Extension agents along the way. He’s also enjoyed getting acquainted with alumni, legislators, county commissioners and elected officials, alumni and prospective students.
Come out Saturday between noon and 1:30 p.m. to meet the president of West Virginia’s flagship university. You can also follow Gee’s travels here – presidentgee.wvu.edu/55-county-tour-of-west-virginia – and read about some of the stops and highlights along the way.
