Festival season means royalty

Hello from Barbour County! Tis the season for festivals around the area. With those festivals, come royalty! I would like to congratulate Leah Seaman, as she is our new Miss Barbour County 2016, as well as Mycala Wagoner, who is Miss Belington 2016. Best wishes ladies!

Get well wishes go out to Belington Patrolman Dylan Johnson, as he was involved in a gunshot wound incident this past week. Get well soon!

Philippi has a new kid on the block in the form of Margarita’s Mexican Grill & Cantina. This new restaurant is located in the old Smokey Ray’s building on the Sheetz end of town. Check it out!

Forest fire season begins today. Outdoor burning is only allowed between the hours of 5 p.m. and 7 a.m. This will remain in effect until Dec. 31. This is especially important now, as we have seen little rain, and things are quite dry around the area.

The October Relay For Life meeting will be Monday at The Market Place in Philippi beginning at 6 p.m. If you want to form a team or just get involved, come on out or call 304-669-6833 for more information.

There will be a Walk for Recovery to benefit Matt Knotts, who was injured in a motorcycle accident. This will take place on Oct. 8 at the Barbour County Fairgrounds beginning at 9 a.m. For more information, call 304-457-2037.

There will be a Food Service Worker Permit Class on Oct. 12 at the Market Place in Philippi. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m., with the class starting at 6 p.m. The cost for a statewide card is $20, and a Barbour County card is $10. Cards are valid for two years. For more information, call Sanitarian Bill Nestor at the Barbour County Health Department at 304-457-1670.

There will be a Color Against Cancer 5K walk/run on Oct. 16 at AB University beginning at noon. Registration is $10. For more information, call 304-457-6582. All proceeds will benefit Barbour County Relay For Life.

If you have any Barbour County news that you would like to see in The Inter-Mountain, give me a call at 304-614-7782. You also can send me an email to sharris@theintermountain.com. I love hearing from you!

Until next time … don’t cling to a mistake just because you spent a lot of time making it.
