Ramp dinner slated for today

Hello, from Barbour County, where the smell of spring is in the air. Can you smell it? It smells like ramps!

There will be a ramp dinner from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. todayat the Mt. Liberty Community Building. The price for adults is $10, and for children under the age of 12, it is $5. The menu consists of ramps, ham, fried potatoes (with and without ramps), cooked ramps, brown or white beans, corn bread, applesauce, dessert and a drink.

If you haven’t gotten your fill of ramps at the first dinner, wait a week and go across the hill to the Union Community Building on April 29 from noon to 5:00 p.m. for another ramp dinner. Once again, the price for adults is $10, and for children under the age of 12, it is $5. This menu is pretty much the same, consisting of ramps, ham, fried potatoes (with and without ramps), brown or white beans, corn bread, applesauce, dessert and a drink. Come on out for a smelly good time.

Also on April 29, at the Belington Fire Department, there will be a spaghetti benefit dinner for Chuck Pitzer to help in his battle with cancer. This will take place from 4-7 p.m. Adults meals cost $10 and children eat for $6. The menu will consist of spaghetti, garlic bread, dessert and a drink.

Backing up a bit, on Sunday, there will be a primitive bingo at Philip Barbour High School to benefit the Barbour County 4-H Equestrian team. The doors open at 1 p.m., with the bingo starting at 2 p.m. For more information, call 304-457-4721.

Philippi will have its annual Art Stroll on April 28 from 5-8 p.m. There will be a painting class at the Market Place, as well as art and music throughout Main Street

There will be a Comedy & Mystery Theater Dinner April 27-29 at Philip Barbour High School, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10, and the menu consists of lasagna, salad, rolls, dessert and a drink.

Don’t forget the city-wide yard sales in Philippi on May 6 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Yard sales will be all over Philippi, including the Court House lawn. Maps will be available to find other sales throughout town.

The 4th annual Princess 5K will take place on May 6 at the Arden Community Building, with registration beginning at 8 a.m. The theme is “Tutus, Tiaras and Teal.” Proceeds will benefit the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition.

The Blue and Gray Reunion will take place the first weekend in June.
