Philip Barbour basketball team will be hiding Easter Eggs

Hello from Barbour County, where the boys basketball team has been breaking records this year. Last week, the team traveled to the state tournaments where Cole Whited broke the record by hitting 13 of 13 shots. The previous record was set in 1994, and was 12 for 12. The Colts won over Bluefield, and went on to play in the semifinals the following day. David Shriver was named to All-Tournament team for his performance this year. Congratulations, not only to these two, but also to the entire team. It’s a great time to be a Colt –whereever you may be.

The PB basketball team would like to “egg” your yard. For $25, the team will hide 48 candy filled eggs, as well as a special golden egg, in your yard on the night before Easter. For more information, or to get on the list, contact Courtney at (304) 591-3066.

I’m happy to announce that the Belington Police Department has met their goal in raising money for the fishing derby this spring. Thank you to all who helped make this possible.

Just a reminder that the spring burning law is in effect. Through May 31, the only time you are allowed to burn is between the hours of 5 p.m. to 7 a.m.

I was able to attend the All County concert at Philip Barbour this week. Bands from all the schools in the county, as well as the chorus students, get together for a night of singing and playing together. The music and arts programs in our schools are important, and the teachers and students do an excellent job.

There will be a Food Service Worker Permit Class on Tuesday at the Market Place in Philippi. In addition to the monthly classes, the Health Department has started a weekly Food Service Worker test that will be given every Tuesday from 9-10 a.m. at the health department. Prices and cards are the same, but if you can’t make it to the classes, this gives you another option.

Keirra Hodge is hosting a 5K on March 31 at the Barbour County Fairgrounds for her senior project. All money raised will be donated to the Philip Barbour Cross Country Team. Easter is on April 1 this year, but don’t be a fool. Psalm 14:1: “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God…..” I’m thankful He arose, and we can trust in Him. Happy Easter. Until next time: If you see someone without a smile, give them yours.
