Graduation leads Barbour County into summer activities

Hello from Barbour County!

Congratulations to the Philip Barbour Class of 2018! The past few weeks have been a flurry of ceremonies, parties and activities leading up to graduation. Students have worked hard, and I wish them all the best in the future.

Last day of school in Barbour County will be June 4. I hope everyone has a fun and safe summer!

Barbour County American Youth Football will be having signups on May 19 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. and May 20 from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. at the State Police Barracks by PBHS. The cost will be $70 for early sign up. Later signup schedules will be on June 9 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. and June 10 from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m., and this cost will be $80. If you have more than one child per family signed up, there will be a discount. Each child will receive a BCAYF shirt. All children ages 5-12 may sign up for football or cheerleading. (must be 5 by July 31) All children will need a copy of their birth certificate, report card, and a sports physical.

Philippi City Pool will be opening for the summer on May 28 for one day, and then will close until June 2, at which time it will open and stay open for the rest of the summer. If you are interested in booking a party please contact the city office at 304-457-3700. Swim lessons will be offered from June 18-22. There will be two evening sessions, one from 6-7 p.m. and another from 7-8 p.m. Please call the pool at 304-457-2023 to sign up.

The Blue and Gray Reunion will take place May 31 – June 3 in Philippi. Events include a car show, parade, 5K, reenactment, crafts, corn hole tournament, food and more. Come on out for a good time! For more information about activities, call City Hall at 304-457-3700.

Belington is having Music Night, every Thursday at the purple building by the red light beginning at 5 p.m. If you play an instrument, sing, or just like to listen, stop by for a relaxing evening of entertainment. There is no cost, and everyone is welcome.

There will be a Food Service Worker Permit Class on June 5 at the Market Place in Philippi. Registration begins at 5:15 p/m/, with the class starting at 6 p.m. The cost for a state wide card is $20, and a Barbour County card is $10. Cards are valid for two years. In addition to the monthly classes, the Barbour County Health Department has started a weekly Food Service Worker test that will be given every Tuesday from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. at the health department.
