Today will be a very busy Saturday for Barbour County

Hello from Barbour County! Barbour County Deputy Sheriff’s Association is accepting monetary donations for their Shop With A Deputy program. The goal is to raise $1,000 to be used to give 10 local children the opportunity to shop with a deputy for the upcoming holiday season. Checks must be made out to the Barbour County Deputy Reserve Unit and can be dropped off at the office, or mailed to 26 North Main Street, Philippi, WV 26416.

Today, Nov. 3 is a busy day in the area. The Southern Baptist Church, Women On A Mission will be having an indoor garage sale at the former Philippi Tire and Alignment Shop from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Later in the evening, the church will be hosting a movie night, beginning at 7 p.m. to watch God’s Not Dead 3. Everyone is welcome, and for questions you can call 304-457-2844.

The community of Tacy will be having a Ham, Bean, and Cornbread Dinner from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the community building. The cost for adults will be $8 and children $5.

Belington Elementary School is having their Fall Carnival from noon until 4 p.m. It starts with the coronation, followed by food, games, prizes, corn hole, chorus program and more.

After that, head on over to the Kasson School to have fun at their carnival from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. They will have games, pulled pork and hotdog dinners, cake walk, auction, prizes, and more, followed by their coronation at 8 p.m.

There will also be a cake walk at the Audra Community Center. The kitchen opens at 6 p.m., with the cake walk starting at 7 p.m.

This is all that I know of that is happening today, but it sure is enough to keep a person busy. I hope that you all have a great day!

Daylight Savings Time ends on Sunday. Be sure and set your clocks back one hour. This is also a good time to change the batteries in your smoke detectors. Stay safe!

There will be a Vera Bradley Purse Bingo on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Junior Fire Department. Tickets are available at the door. Sponsored by the Freedom Bank Relay for Life Team and Junior Fire Department.

Nov. 6 is Election Day. It’s our responsibility to get out and vote. There will be no school in Barbour County on this day.

The Union Community Building on Nov. 10, from 7 a.m. – 11 a.m. will offer buckwheat cakes, sausage, eggs, biscuits, gravy, and a drink. Adults: $10. Children under 12: $5. Children under 5: Free.

Nov. 11 is Veterans Day. Thank you to all veterans who have sacrificed for our freedom. VFW Post 410 is hosting a Veteran’s Day Dinner at the post home in Belington on November 11 for all veterans. Dinner will be served at 5 p.m.
