Scholarship program helps young people achieve dreams
Too often we focus on the mistakes made by young people in our community and forget that most of our youth are good individuals who deserve the chance to be everything they can be. However, a local scholarship program will help give three young people from Randolph County the opportunity to make the most of their lives.
The Elkins-Randolph County Chamber of Commerce invites graduating seniors in Randolph to enter the Education Scholarship Program, which will award $1,500 in scholarships to qualified students. Applications and eligibility requirements may be picked up now in the guidance counselor office at all county high schools or the Chamber of Commerce office.
The Education Scholarship Program, now an annual Chamber project, is open to graduating high school seniors who are current residents of Randolph County and plan to attend a West Virginia college/university or trade school. The entry deadline is April 15.
The program’s goal is to recognize, honor and assist three Randolph County students with awards as they further their education and prepare for the challenging careers that lie ahead. The $500 scholarships will provide some financial support to students for the rising costs of higher education.
The scholarship recipients will be chosen based on the following criteria: scholastic achievement (they must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA), extra-curricular activities, qualities of character and leadership, business/career interests and essay responses. Winners will be announced at their high school awards ceremony.
For additional details, or if you would like to contribute to the scholarship fund, please contact the Elkins Randolph County Chamber of Commerce at (304) 636-2717 or email@example.com. Applications are also available on the Chamber website at www.erccc.com.
We encourage high school seniors to apply for the scholarship program, and adults and businesses to contribute to the scholarship fund.
Yes, the children are our future, but they depend on the training we give them, and the paths we set them on. This scholarship program helps local young people achieve their dreams, and we support it wholeheartedly.
