Boos & Applause

Editor’s note: During the course of a week, issues are covered that might not lend themselves to full editorial comment, but they are worthy of The Inter-Mountain weighing in — pro, con or neutral.

Applause and congratulations to Davis & Elkins College graduates. The college hosted its Nurses’ Pinning and baccalaureate ceremony Friday, with graduation ceremonies set for this afternoon. With the knowledge these young men and women have gained at D&E, they are sure to move out into the community and take up successful careers.

Applause to the Buckhannon Police Department for again offering a Youth Police Academy. In addition, a number of other events are planned for students, including simulated traffic stops, crime scenes and accidents. “We work closely with the fire department to tour the facilities and go through the mock accident,” Police Chief Matthew Gregory said this week. Local youth, and adults alike, surely will benefit from these programs that highlight the positive work of law enforcement officials.

Applause to West Virginia Strawberry Festival officials for again putting on a memorable event, which continues today and Sunday. The annual Grand Feature Parade is set to step off at 1 p.m. today, to the delight of young and old alike. Festival officials have again shown what hard work and dedication can do, especially in highlighting an amazing community for locals and tourists.
