Boos & Applause

Editor’s note: During the course of a week, issues are covered that might not lend themselves to full editorial comment, but they are worthy of The Inter-Mountain weighing in — pro, con or neutral.

——

Applause to the city of Elkins and all involved in promoting and welcoming the West Virginia Rally of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. Officials and community members have welcomed the group with open arms, and the city has put its best foot forward by sprucing things up so we make the best possible impression. The group will be returning for at least the next two years, and we hope they leave with a positive impression and have a great rally.

Applause and congratulations to the three telecommunicators of the year, named during Thursday Randolph County Commission meeting. Tia Kisamore was recognized as dayshift telecommunicator of the year, Richard Cox as afternoon shift telecommunicator of the year, and Jill McClure as nightshift telecommunicator of the year. “Today, the critical communications link between citizens and their local first responders is mired in the technology of the telephone age,” Randolph County Office of Emergency Management Director Cindy Hart said. “It is truly a testament to the professionalism and selflessness of our nation’s 9-1-1 professionals that calls are answered, callers are located and help is dispatched efficiently and effectively.”

——

Applause to former Delegate Denise Campbell for her testimony before Senate Democrats in Washington on the pitfalls of proposed health care plans and the impact they would have on rural West Virginia. Campbell has long been an advocate for the people of the Mountain State, and it is good to see her putting her health care expertise to good use in defending us all.

——

Applause and congratulations to Glenn Galloway for his appointment and swearing in as the new police chief in Elkins. Interim chief J.C. Raffety has done an amazing job leading the department, and it is reassuring to see another seasoned law enforcement official step into this all-important role.

——

Applause to the YouthBuild program for all their contributions and hard work in Central West Virginia. Working with Melodee Price and West Virginia Make it Shine, students have been involved in a variety of service projects, including cleaning around river banks, railroad tracks, local businesses and other areas. The work they have done is beyond measure and much appreciated by area residents.
