Boos & Applause
Applause to the army of volunteers it takes to successfully present the Mountain State Forest Festival each year. The 83rd edition of the MSFF has been a rousing success, and we are grateful to the hundreds of people whose hard work made it happen. Kaitlin Marie Smith, who was crowned as Queen Silvia Friday, and her Maids of Honor Christine Paige Zurbuch and Susan Elizabeth Riggleman have headlined a festival week that featured great sunny weather, terrific entertainment and a variety of family friendly fun. Enjoy the Grand Feature Parade today and the Band Field Show tonight, as this year’s Forest Festival still has a lot more to offer.
Applause to local law enforcement for handling all the challenges presented them this week by the increased traffic and the teeming masses of pedestrians during Forest Festival week in Elkins.
Applause to Elkins businesses who have stayed open later this week to accommodate Festival-goers. This is a great example of everyone in town working together to make the week of the Forest Festival even better.
Boo to those Festival-goers who have chosen to litter and leave trash on the streets and sidewalks or on the ground at City Park. Cleaning up after the Forest Festival is a massive job for the City of Elkins departments, but littering makes that job even harder.
