All teachers, subjects are equally important

There seems to be a school of thought in this country that high school and college students are wasting their time if they aren’t studying math and science. A recent editorial in your paper proposed that math and science teachers should be paid more than other teachers. All teachers are important and all subject matter is important.

Not everybody will become an engineer, or scientist, or enter some other occupation that requires high level math and science. Not everybody will go to college after high school.

I’m not saying math and science aren’t important but so are the social studies, language arts, physical education, the performing and fine arts and foreign languages. Vocational training is also an important field of study. A well-rounded education includes studies in the aforementioned fields of study. No one field is more or less important than any other.
