Volunteers made cleanup a success

I would like to thank everyone who participated in the 10th Annual Tygart Valley River Cleanup on April 13.

Our event was sponsored by McNeer, Highland, McMunn and Varner LLC and by the 2013 West Virginia Make It Shine Statewide Cleanup campaign. This event was organized by operations assistant Peggy Young.

We had 87 volunteers come out to help us clean the river banks surrounding the city of Elkins including the Haddix Road inlet. The volunteers were from various groups including AFHA, AmeriCorps, AES Laurel Mountain, Denise Campbell Family, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, McNeer, Highland, McMunn and Varner, Mountain School, Randolph County Community Corrections, On-Trac, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Woodlands Development Group, Youth Build, local residents, city of Elkins employees and council persons.

In the process of this river cleanup, we were able to remove 1.5 tons of trash in addition to tires and shopping carts. Thanks again to everyone who turned out to make this one of the most successful river cleanups ever. Our volunteers shine.
