Explaining major party differences

A lot of ignorance is going around from our local Trumpcakes, and I feel it is my civic duty to counter as much of it as I can. Starting with…

Democrats: How they’re the absolute worst! So, for the longest time, I’ve been sending letters to The Inter-Mountain, explaining how I believe that the Republicans currently in power are ruining this country (and there are many examples). And then this guy, Randy Brooks, comes along and tells us how it’s the Democrats who are the worst. “They hate equal rights,” he said, to which I can only raise a brow as I remember how Democrats continue to fight for our rights to vote, strengthening civil rights for women and minority groups and fighting like hell to keep Republicans from raising taxes on the middle class and yet give tax cuts to the rich. Yeah… wanna try again?

“They hate religious freedoms,” he cried! Actually we hate bigots and those who use religion as an excuse to get away with discrimination (or hate crimes, as the kids say these days). “The Second Amendment!” If you actually paid some real attention, you would know that most (though, admittedly, not all) people on the gun-control side are not wanting to do away with gun rights. “Jobs!” Hahahahaha! “The Wealthy!” If I hate the wealthy, then why do I enjoy watching John Oliver (who can afford to buy, like, five wax sculptures of former presidents) so much? I guess he meant the super-rich who keep trying to get richer by making everyone else poorer. Then you got me there.

Then there’s the high crime of Democrats, led by President Obama, demanding that we have health care! “Oh, someone, please, fetch me my fainting couch! Those heathens, I swear, are ruining my life by not letting me die of some curable disease!” said no one ever. It will baffle me for the rest of my life how people will hate the idea of having health care. It’s like being told to eat your vegetables, even if one were to hate them. You might hate them, but they’re still good for you!

Now lets talk guns and the NRA. Trumpcakes, there is something you need to know, because it sounds a lot like you’re ignoring the hundreds of elephants in the room: You. Are. The. Minority. On. This. Topic. Seven out of 10 Americans want to see stricter gun control.

Veterans, in case you haven’t seen their latest ad, are advocating for the ban on assault rifles, not the removal of the Second Amendment. The NRA’s approval is under water. You know why it’s under water? Probably because they had the audacity to try and vilify the Parkland School survivors. People in the NRA have actually gone after these kids, to harass, demean and threaten them into silence. These kids, and countless others like them, have gone through a horrific event, and all they want is common sense gun laws, and yet the NRA wants us to believe that they are the bad ones?

Trumpcakes, how can you look at all of those kids and the literal millions of people who participated in the recent “March for Our Lives” event, where they swore all that they want is to live peacefully and without terror, How can you look at them and call them the absolute worse?

Trumpcakes, this is something that I really, really wish someone will say to your face: We’re not the bad guys. You are.

And, one last thing, Randy Brooks left a comment via Facebook on my last letter, where he claimed that President Obama was the cause for the rise of gun violence because the names of 500,000 fugitives were erased from the NICS database.

First off, stop getting your news from Fox, studies have proven that they are not reliable for information. Second, let me explain it in the simplest way possible: Since the George W. Bush days, the FBI and ATF were arguing about the definition of the term “fugitive from justice.” They finally settled on something that works for both parties at the tail end of President Obama’s administration; it was implemented shortly after Trump took over, and most of the 500,000 names weren’t erased as a result, just reassigned into new categories or are awaiting review for reassignment under the new interpretation.

Fact checking. It’s that easy!

Also, Blue Wave’s coming. I suggest that you seek higher ground.
