Discover BCS National Championship Quarter 2 & 3

January 8, 2013 - John Zirbs
In the 2nd Quarter: T. J. Yeldin scores from 1 yard out and after the p.a.t., the Crimson Tide increase their lead to 21 to 0. Everett Golson completed a pass to Daniels at the Tides 48 yard line. Jefferey Pagan stopped Golson from getting a first down, then Dion Blue knocked a pass away and held them on downs.

Bama had a first down, but it was called back because of a holding penalty. On the next play they did not get the first down, so they were forced to punt. The punt was fielded but fumbled out of bounds, so the Irish kept the ball.

A.J. McCarren ran the Tide offense with Outland Trophy winner Barrett Jones at Center. McCarren completed a long pass, then Lacy scored again for the Tide with :31 seconds left in the 2nd Quarter. The score was Tide 28, Irish 0. The Million Dollar Band of the University of Alabama and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Marching Band performed to the crowd during half time.

In the third quarter Notre Dame took the 2nd half kickoff and were marching down the field, but on the next play Quentin Dix of the Tide intercept the ball . Louis Nix was injured for the Irish, and two of the defensive lineman for the Irish were out of the game. McCarren threw a 34-yard pass to Amari Cooper for another Bama touchdown. With the extra point, the score was Tide 35, Irish 0.

McCarren was 15 out of 21 passing for 215 yards in the game. With 406 yards in total offense so far in the game, Notre Dame is in the red zone. Golson completed a pass to Jones at the Tide 3 yard line. Golson scored a touchdown for the Irish, and after the p.a.t. the score was Tide 35, Irish 7. The Tide is a downhill running football team and keeps them running for four Quarters. Poor tackling is what hurt the Irish in the game. At the end of the 3rd quarter, it is Alabama 35, Notre Dame 7.
