AFC Championship

January 23, 2013 - John Zirbs
The Baltimore Ravens are playing the New England Patriots for the AFC Championship, from Gillete Stadium in Foxboro, Mass. It is Ray Lewis’ farewell tour against a Patriot team that’s tough to beat at home, On the first series, the Ravens went three-and- out and punted to the Pats, who marched down to kick a field goal and take and early 3-0 lead. The Pats shut the Ravens down again. and get the ball back. The pass to Aaron Hernandez was complete but a an unnecessary roughness call on Lewis moved the ball up 15 yards. The Ravens eventually force a punt to the 17-yard line. Bernard Pierce, the rookie from Temple, carried the load for the Raven offense. Joe Flaco missed a big gainer on a pass attempt as the wind blew it too far. The Ravens start at the 10-yard line, Talib of the Patriots is out with a thigh injury. That is the end of the first quarter with the score, New England Patriots 3, Baltimore Ravens 0. Ray Rice was also in the backfield, and they have consecutive first downs on this drive, John Harbaugh is the coach of the Ravens while his brother Jim Harbaugh is the coach of the 49ers. Boy, would I like to see a Harbaugh vs. Harbaugh confrontation in Super Bowl LXII at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, La., on Feb. 3. The Ravens are on a march down the field for a score, Rice goes to the 2 for a first-and-goal, Flaco threw a floater to Pitta but it was out of bounds. Ray Rice goes in for the touchdown for the Ravens, and with the extra point it is now Ravens 7, Patriots 3. At the end of the first half, it is Patriots 13, Ravens 7. The Patriots added a Wes Welker touchdown and a field goal to extend the lead. In the second half, Flaco hits Pitta for a touchdown for the Ravens and it is now 14 -13 Ravens. It was an 87-yard drive in 10 plays, At the end of the third quarter, it’s Ravens 14, Patriots 13.

After an Anquan Boldin 3-yard TD reception, it’s now Ravens 21, Patriots 13. Boldin scores his second touchdown of the game, and with the point after, it’s now Ravens 28, Patriots 13. That is the end of the game with the final score Baltimore Ravens 28, New England Patriots 13. The Baltimore Ravens win the Lamar Hunt trophy as the AFC Champion and go to Super Bowl LXVII in New Orleans.
