Windmills Won’t Be Detrimental to Scenery
Editor:
I applaud the comments of Mr. Denver Barnett in the May 3 edition of The Inter-Mountain’s “Our Readers Say.” I certainly agree with his conclusions that the windmill project proposed for Laurel Mountain would be a clean source of needed energy which will create jobs and tax income for the local economy and help to offset the current harmful dependence on foreign oil.
I wish here to address another aspect of the controversy, that being the contention by some that the introduction of the windmills into the scenic landscape would, in effect, ruin the beauty of the area and drive tourists away. I do not believe that is true.
I am retired from over 20 years as the forest landscape architect of the Monongahela National Forest. A major responsibility of that position was to evaluate the scenic resource of the national forest and to determine the potential impacts of proposed projects on the visual resource.

Support the Levy
Editor:
As members of the Randolph County Board of Education, we would like to ask the voters of Randolph County to vote YES for the levy on May 13. We looked long and hard at the issue of whether to run a levy this year.
Supporting Windmills
Editor:
Recently, we have all been stunned by the soaring cost of energy. Not just gasoline but costs of all forms of fuel and other energy products continue to rapidly increase.
Cast Your Vote Wisely
Editor:
It’s time for a change in West Virginia. For decades, the citizens of this state have failed to see the need for eliminating those in office who care nothing about the future of our state.
