Review the issues
Editor: Letter writer Randall McCauley (“Our readers say” — July 17, 2010) is obviously concerned about sensationalism and platitudes, without much concern for facts. In four short paragraphs, Mr. McCauley has seen fit to refer to President Obama as “Barrack Hussien Obama” (his spelling of “Barack” not mine) not less than three times. Any purpose for this usage but to inflame? I think not. Mr. McCauley thanks “God and glory” for Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck, but somehow omits their middle names. Mr. McCauley talks about President Obama “taking our freedom away on a daily basis,” his socialist agenda, his running the nation “like the Chicago political machines run Chicago” and his “radical agenda;” he concludes that the reader may “not understand” or may “not care” what the president is “doing to our country.” I would suggest that rather than simple name-calling and mindless repeating of bumper-sticker drivel, Mr.

Observations on July 4 events

I am writing to give my opinion of the July 4 activities in downtown Elkins. First, let me start by telling you how much I enjoyed seeing the classic car.
Responsibility in the mines

I’d like to respond to a couple of letters and editorials that have been printed in your paper.
Jessica Scott makes the statement that there were atrocities committed at the Massey Mine and the Sago Mine.
Lack of guidance and protection

Dear West Virginia Politicians: I’m sending you this as a tax paying citizen of this beautiful state who is deeply depressed and saddened by your lack of guidance and protection.
