Bill Clinton Campaigns in Philippi

Hillary Clinton supporters, a few Republicans and even those who are not registered to vote stood in the rain for more than an hour waiting to see and hear a speech by former President Bill Clinton in Philippi Thursday.

The line of people extended from the back doors to the gymnasium behind city hall and around the block beside the courthouse. Some stood under tarps, young girls huddled beneath large umbrellas and others just braved the weather with no cover. Those who completed a form with their name, address and phone number, could skip the line, according to Jordan Heston of Philippi.

“It (the form) basically said you’re willing to support the campaign,” Heston said.

A blue curtain divided the gymnasium and approximately700 people filled the section as Clinton gave his speech, according to a volunteer.

As people filed out of the gym after his address, many were abuzz about how thrilling it was to have a former U.S.
