Locals: Few Surprises in Debate

Local residents who watched the third and final presidential debate Wednesday night agreed that there were few surprises in Sen. John McCain and Sen. Barack Obama’s messages. Shana Horrigan said the debate went “pretty much as expected.” “I didn’t seen anything spectacular or new,” she said. Horrigan said that “Joe the Plumber,” the small business owner referenced throughout the debate, didn’t represent her well. Horrigan, too, is a small business owner. Sen. Barack Obama’s views on small business policies appealed to Horrigan. “He’s treating small businesses like the middle class,” she said. After the debate, Horrigan gained more confidence in Obama. “I’m looking forward to what he (Obama) will be rolling out in the future,” Horrigan concluded. There were few surprises for Dave Vago of Beverly as well. Neither candidate discussed using rail as a form of transportation to conserve energy, which Vago found disappointing.
