I agree Bill, but we most be extremely careful that we do not create a situation where mine operators are tripping over ineffective and useless legislation designed to make mining 100% safe. Coming from a coal mining family, I can tell you that a 100% safe mine is an impossibility.
The DOT is trying to do that to the trucking industry right now. Each year, their regulations get more restrictive, which will eventually put trucking companies out of business because it is impossible to comply with all the DOT's regulations and still make a profit. I advise the government to move forward with extreme caution of mining jobs will disappear when coal operators close operations.
