I'll get bombarded with attacks from some of the readers in here for what I am about to say, but it's the truth and I'm going to say, like I have for several years. Wake up people, it's the welfare system churning out thousands of people with no morals, no respect for anyone, including the law. It's the most evil social experiment ever cast on mankind. The welfare systems promotes single parent environments, destroys work ethics and keeps recipients trapped in a self-destructive environment.

Several years ago, scientist studied young elephants, less than 5 months old, after removing them from the father. They were raised soley by the females. After reaching adulthood, they were withdrawn, easily angered and constantly fought without provocation with other elephants. It seems to work the same way with humans raised in single parent homes. Welfare needs to go away for all except the disabled and mentally handicapped. It's the worse plague to ever hit mankind.

Eureka! Finally, an editorial that is spot on! It is time to stop blaming violence and mass shootings on inate objects such as guns. However, liberal politicians that have no knowledge of firearms and their lawful use stampede forward with knew-jerk reactions to pacify their liberal base. Folks that live in most metro areas are either prohibited from possessing firearms for their personal protection or their rights to do so are severly limted, with the end result of thugs and criminals are the armed ones. I also find it interesting that Obama proposes severe limitations on our 2nd Amendment rights, while barely addressing mental health issues. And, blantantly omitted was any mention of violent video games, violent TV programs, and the lack of parenting in America. This leads me to the conclusion that he doesn't want to offend his muti-million dollar Hollwywood donors or those that live off the public dole and voted him and his ilk into office.

Just because a person collect public assistance doesn't mean they are violent and law breakers. I wish our only complaints were the length of our hair and our clothing instead of drugs, guns etc.

I never said all people who collect public assistance are bad people, but a high percentage of them are using drugs, breaking laws and causing problems in the community. We have three housing projects in Buckhannon, and I assure you, most of the people living in them are not pillars of the community. I'd be willing to bet that a good portion of the people selling and producing Meth in the Elkins area came from public assistance families.

The welfare system has done this country a great disservice by creating a society of people that have been a drain on our economic resources, a nightmare for law enforcement and prison system. You can't sugar coat that, no matter how hard you try. It's time to face the facts and put credit where credit is due. Squarely in the laps of the Liberal Democrats.

By the way Playfair, would you still be willing to support these people if the tax system was set up to make only the people who supports welfare fund it? It's the only fair way to handle it. Make the ones wanting it, pay for it. I am a firm believer that people who will not work, should not be fed, unless of course, they happen to be disabled, either mentally or physically. I work for my money, and they should also. We should never have 2nd and 3rd generation welfare families like we have now. Maybe you don't know any of them, but I could point out dozens of them in Buckhannon, and list is growing each day.

Puremagix sounds like another bitter old GOP guy who has to blame the problem of the world on the poor when we all know that those in power control it all the difference is that the rich hide there vilence thru their lawyers and get out of it and poor cannot.

Pure all your comments always go back to the same thing... hatred of the poor and not wanting to help those in need with your money. Racial statements and insults to people you do not agree with. If you can't say something good about somebody why don't you not say anything at all? That would just be too simple wouldn't it. The United States will not abandon those who need a litlle help. So live with it. We can't abandon those who need because of those who use the system. No matter what we do they'll always exists and I'll be darned if I'll support dumping programs because of those few.....Everybody chips in and if you don't like it, leave.....

Playfair, I don't have a problem helping people in need, but I do have a problem keeping people who are able to work. The welfare system is loaded with lazy people who enslave those who will, through a progressive tax system that continually penalizes hard working people through higher taxes to keep these people. I don't have a thing against poor people, unless of course they do nothing to better themselves.

If you think welfare is the answer, you are a fool. There is plenty of work for these people fixing roads, cleaning up trash, and a thousand other things that need done so they can earn the money they get each month. Instead, they are allowed to sit on their ass doing nothing, while the people they take money from work their ass off to pay the additional taxes they create. I grew up in a time when you'd rather cut your arm off than take money from someone else. It's called pride. Now, pride has been replaced with a sense of entitlement. You need to learn the difference.

Elkins sounds like a vendictive old Democrat that thinks successful people are thieves who stole what they have from someone else. People like Elkins suffers from a mental disorder known as liberalism. Their disorder won't allow them to understand things like right & wrong, moral & immoral and success through hard work. Elkins sounds a lot like a few school teachers I've met over the years. Tell me Elkins, are you or have you been a school teacher? That would explain your warped personality.

The GOP has lost the National elections two cycles in a row by listening to Rush, Palin,Fox News etc this should give pause to them but instead they keep insulting over 50% of the population who vote. So if you contiune to be so Angry and biggoted towards 51% of the counrty explain to me how do u win.Being small minded and bigotted never will get u anywhere even George Wallace figured that Out!

The GOP lost the last two election cycles because the Democrats hand out money like drunken sailors to anyone willing to exchange their vote for a few pieces of silver. Democrats don't win elections any more, they buy them with entitlements, handouts and bailouts. If you think Obama won fair and square, then you need to wake up. Obama promises people everythin in exchange for their basic rights, but unlike the people who look at the bigger picture, these useless drones will gladly trade their rights for a hollow promise. I never thought I'd live to see some many unpatriotic, greedy people willing to sell their soul to the devil.
