All one has to do is look at states run by liberals and see they have the MOST crime. They ahve the most strict gun laws; they have the most taxes and even when we have a radical liberal socialist democrat like Obama............they whole COUNTRY goes to pieces. It ALWAYS takes a conservative INDEPENDENT and INDIVIDUAL THINKER to get back in office to get the morality, the laws, and order back. It takes a conservative to lower the taxes and allow folks to LIVE with prosperity again. It can't come soon enough after the WORST president EVER--Obama!

When people confuse ignorance with morality the idiots will feel superior.

The left just always side with the degenerates, the politically correct which is really morally corrupt. They prefer feeling sympathy for criminals than the victims and that is the sad truth as you watch every execution bringing in these lefties with their lit candles begging for pardons for murderers and rapists. It's sickening.

Pure, you would have to cherrypick the bible to agree with it's laws. The fact of it is the Bible is full of flat out nonsense and plenty of things that are thought of as horrendous today. A 4000 year old book might have some useful information in it but is hardly the best book to run a modern society on, any more than the Koran is.

if pure is such a believer in god, i think he needs to reread the bible because his views and comments about certain things dont make him sound very god fearing. they make him sound like hitler, and we all know where he ended up.

What is wrong with you? Why twist the meaning of my statements? How many times do I have to tell you that I'm not against capitol punishment?

By not torturing our prisoners I mean that they should not be subjected to preventable violence, their food should be edible and sufficient, there should be a reasonable amount of space and they should get adequate medical attention for conditions other than stab wounds.

Granted, I would have prefered taking the murderer of my God-Daughter to the woods and letting the critters eat him slowly. That wouldn't have been justice, it would have been revenge. It would also have been a crime that I wouldn't have complained about serving the time for if I were caught.

It is important because we should be better people than they are if we are going to judge them. Don't forget that most people that serve time aren't murderers and that doing the time is the punishment. We don't have a right to add torture to the sentence.

It is extremely rare that an insanity defense works and the capacity to premeditate a crime excludes an insanity defense. So does the capacity to realize that what is being done is wrong or illegal. Medical insanity is far different than legal insanity for the purposes of a defense.

Fortunately Humanity has come a long way since the Bible was written. Prison didn't exist to punish crimes and choices were limited. Do you really think that adultery should be punished by stoning? Should I really be able to beat my wife with a stick as thick as my thumb or kill my son if he were disrespectful? Should eating oysters be illegal? American Law really isn't based on the Bible and Biblical Law is completely out of date. Truth be told I've never met anyone that truly takes the Bible literally and our legal system surely does not. The Bible just doesn't cover enough of what is entailed in policing modern society. Not that there isn't some wisdom to be gleaned from it's pages.

Personally I would have been disappointed if the murderer of my God-Daughter had been executed (although I'm not against the death penalty). It would have been far too easy.

Don't ever again tell me that I care nothing for the victims of crime or their families. My God-Daughter, a wonderful young woman that I helped raise, was murdered two years ago. I made sure that I was looking her killer in the eyes when he was sentence to life in prison while I held her sobbing mother. The rest of his life will be a living*****even if he is treated humanely. Unlike you I know what I talk about.

Quit putting words in my mouth. I'm as law and order as you are. I just don't fantasize about prison rape or putting bullets in the heads of shoplifters. Treating convicts humanely is civilized not coddling.

What they may do in some other backward country doesn't have any bearing on what we do.

Yeah, the Bible is all about justice. I especially like the way your God sent everyone that came after Adam to*****until he had his Son nailed to a cross. Even then He didn't let most of the people on the planet know that there was a way to be forgiven for something that they didn't do. Believing that fairytale doesn't make you morally superior. If it did you would at least quit bearing false witness.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that you don't know what you are blathering about.

The fact is that our jails and prisons are overcrowded and far too dangerous. If America is going to house 25% of the worlds prisoner our jails should be better than our dog pounds after all. at least when it comes to our jails, some of these human beings are actually innocent.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why radical leftists don't want criminals held accountable and don't want law-abiding innocent citizens to be able to defend themselves and their own property from these degenerates. They obviously are worried about themselves getting caught and/or stopped physically by the property owner.

The new legislation to allow property owners to defend themselves with force if someone comes on their property attempting to steal or harm someone else on their property is a GOOD thing. Not so good for offenders though, which is why some on here don't like it.

Just look at the news on television each night or in this paper. Most of our high crime rate in WV recently is due to OUTSIDERS from other states and/or illegal aliens comitting the crimes.

Another reason overcrowded prisons? Because liberals 'sympathize' with their own kind (criminals) instead of the law-abiding victims. We should start executing murderers and rapists. That alone would allow more prison space for the other degenerates.

I suspect the small town thieves and even those rapists and would-be attempted murderers will be stopped now that our governor/legislatures are doing away with previous laws against citizens protecting themselves and their property by now changing and allowing citizens to use physical force to stop them on our property. This is a great idea. Who would have thought democrats one day would realize it's their own bad previous laws that are causing such chaos and increase in criminal activity?!? I guess it's better late than never.

he always tries to go off subject. these examples the writer uses are not caused by overcrowding, i sure stuff like this happens in all jails. it is caused by being understaffed. if pure had his way he would just shoot everyone and he wonders why we have gun laws.

Puremistakes strikes again. A person accused of a crime is prosecuted and housed in the jurisdiction of sentencing. If WV has out of state prisoners they are likely 1 of 3 situations: 1) Awaiting transfer to accusing area; 2) They committed a crime IN THIS state; 3) The state of offense is overcrowded too and is paying WV to house their inmate. Feds will take and are only responsible for those accused of a federal offenses.

Relating to illegals- it is estimated that WV had UNDER 10,000 within the general population in 2010 & our overall population was judged as 1,852,999. This yields a percentage of 0.54%. Current WV prison population is 5,067 and P&P numbers are 6,977. So to be conservative we have 65 =((6977+5067)*.0054) non-US citizens in the entire WV corrections system and only 27 in jail. That low figure is hardly the big reason for overcrowding to me.

I decided against calcing the feds b/c that comment is off topic from the editorial.
