Your statement "...we know of no newspaper that has published them," is grossly inaccurate. The Record Delta Newspaper in Upshur County, each month, publishes a list of concealed carry permits issued the previous month. So does the blantantly anti-gun newspaper, the Charleston Gazette. Publishing the names and addresses of permit holders has no real value to readers and only does harm. What if a women obtains a restraining order against her husband or boyfriend and he continues to stalk or harass her and she obtains a CC permit, does that information serve the public's right to know? I think not! Publishing the list also send a message to would-be burglars. If that person has a CC permit, they probably own more guns that I can steal. What else do you want to publish, the addresses of women's aid in crisis shelters so their abusers can find them? Would that information also serve the public's right to know?

The ONLY people that have a right to know the names of concealed carry permit holders are law enforcement personnel! What value is there in me knowing John Does of Becky's Creek has a CC permit? None! The real deterant of a CC permit is not who has them, but the very fact that potential robbers, rapists, burgulars and thugs DO NOT KNOW if their potential victim has a CC permit! The vast majority of WV newspapers do not publish a list of everyone convicted in circuit and magistrate courts of law violations. Some of those convicted pose a potential and real threat to the public such as multiple DUIs, people that have assualted others, thieves, etc., so, why so much interest in publishing CC permit holders? They have passed an extensive background check and by the very nature of the permit have NEVER been convicted nor under indictment for a crime?

A few, including me, would be willing, if necessary to stop the publishing of CC Permit Holders names, compromise and add some safeguards to protect the permit holders privacy---and THEY DO have a right to privacy. Particularly, CC Permit holders names would not be published, however, if one believed they absolutely just had to know who has CC Permits then, they could go to the county sheriff's office, pay a small administrative fee and view the list. But, under WV code, newspapers and any form of media including social media sites would be prohibited from publishing the list.

Final comment. The WV press Association has fought tooth and nail for several years to keep publishing the names of Concealed Carry Permit Holders. Their paid lobyist's (from Gilmer County) argument has always been to invoke the 1st Amendment. So, a reasonably intelligent person can deduce that in order to protect the WV Press Association's 1st Amendment rights, it's acceptable to trample on the rights provided in the 2nd Amendment?

I am replying from the view of a female NRA Certified Pistol Instructor, NRA Range Safety Officer, NRA Refuse To Be A Victim Instructor, and Women On Target Clinic Director. I’m also a daughter, wife, mother and grandmother who will fight like a cornered cat to protect my children, grandchildren and loved ones. You guessed it, I'm also a CCW permit holder! I am well trained in the handling of firearms, and I teach others to respect firearms, how to safely use and store them. My fingerprints are on file with the FBI. I've passed not only the NICS check for CCW permit and to LEGALLY PURCHASE FIREARMS, but also federal background investigation for purposes of employment. I follow the rules. You might be SURPRISED that MY NEIGHBORS KNOW OF MY SKILLS AND APPRECIATE HAVING ME FOR THEIR NEIGHBOR! Publish my name, address and telephone number, or for that fact, those of any other CCW permit holder. Will it stop a crime? Will it protect the innocent? I've instructed young women i

continued..I've instructed young women in the use of firearms for protection who had personal protection issues that would keep all of you awake nights and in constant fear. Should those names be made public so the convicted felons can hurry to their homes to make good on serious threats? How about if it were your daughter in mortal danger? Let’s publish her name and address. Oh geeze, just print a map with her home location and make it easier for them! The only motive to publicize names of legal CCW permit holders is a publisher with an anti-second amendment, anti-gun agenda with a bully pulpit. It is a vindictive, hostile act. Do you want to fulfill the mission of a news outlet, that of informing the public, or, would you rather alienate the majority of your readers with your political leanings and lose subscriptions? Go for it. Your subscriptions will tell the story. You want all information made public? Let's see? Perhaps those who've contracted HIV would like the

And add anyone who's ever contracted syphilis or gonorrhea. We need to make those records public because we all should know what kind of person we're dating and what harm they might bring to our health? Oh, and any out there who sometime in your life suffered tremendous stress or tragedy which precipitated a nervous breakdown? I really need to know who you are! Why who knows what insane or dangerous acts you might perpetrate on the innocent. Gee whiz! You might be a school teacher in charge of young ones and surely you could not be trusted in such a position. Then there's abortion! I really have the right to know the name of EVERY WOMAN WHO HAS HAD AN ABORTION! After all, she is a murderer! Publish those names and contact information! Add Google maps please. Yes sir! The current administration promised to

This government thinks it knows what's best for all of us, and THEY KNOW no one should have any secrets or privacy. Most of all THEY KNOW no one should have a weapon (personally I only own firearms. The military & law enforcement use weapons). They are adamant about banning assault rifles. I've yet to figure out exactly what is an assault rifle. Some words made up? Dunno? They want to ban "those high capacity clips that hold 30 or more bullets"! Really, they do! This is perplexing to me since I own many different types of firearms but I do not own one CLIP! Furthermore, none of my firearms load with bullets! How can this be? The press says assault rifles with high capacity clips hold 30 or more bullets so it must be true, right? But assault weapon sounds far more threatening than firearm, right? Words hav

CONTINUED...But assault weapon sounds far more threatening than firearm, right? Words have meanings and words can be contrived and used to convey a benign message or an ugly message. The lamestream media talk incessantly about assault rifles with high capacity clips that hold 30 or more bullets. Would you believe me if I said they've not a clue of what they speak? I think they need to take a good firearms training course! Red, white, and blue, flag waving, Bible clutching Cornered Cat! AMEN!

you stated "Both the press and the public in general are entitled to know who among us may be carrying concealed weapons. The reasons for that are obvious." what reason do you have to know who carries a concealed weapon? that would be the same as listing everyone that owns a weapon. People who carry a concealed weapon or own a gun in their homes have a right to privacy that out weighs the right of the press to report the news. The press seems to think that they are above us..the average reader..but without us..there would be no use for them..perhaps it is time to boycott The InterMountain to make a point?

NOT passing the amendment is the step down a slippery slope! It is no one's business who has a CC permit except law enforcement, and only then if there is sufficient cause to know. There are some things that should remain Private and this is one of them. The only slippery slope here is being pushed by those who Think they have a "right" to know Everything. It is, basically, None of Your Business!

i dont know what the big deal is. if i were a criminal and i read in the paper that joe bob just got a cc permit, i think i would be less likely to mess with joe bob or his stuff.

fedupas1canbe..the big deal is this..if we begin listing those that have concealed weapons permit and joe bob wanted to steal a weapon..all he would need to do is read the paper..and hello..he has a list of potential victims to chose from in order to get his hands on a weapon illegally

Ya its a slippery slope alright and its folks like you who are holding the banana peel for any unsuspecting person to slip on.Your right to know ends at someones front door. address unknown name unknown is the only information you have the right to know of.For any private citizen for publication or word of mouth. The 5th and the 9th amendment cover a persons right to privacy in person and in personal information.
