I have another proposal. How about forcing insurance companies from using a person's credit score as a factor in what they pay for insurance? It doesn't have anything to do with a person's ability to pay their premiums, and only serves as a mechanism to charge higher rates based on your credit score. It's a simple process. If a person fails to pay their insurance premiums, cancel their insurance. It's not like the insurance companies lost anything by someone not keeping their insurance active, and they still have the right to refuse to sell them insurance at a later date, but don't victimize people because they may have had their credit score lowered because they are out of work, or had an illness. And while we're at it, make it illegal for credit bureaus to give out personal credit information to anyone who isn't a financial institution. Other than credit unions, banks or other financial institutions, no one else needs access to your personal credit history. Period.
