BOE Reviews EMS Progress
By ALEC RADER, Staff WriterIn a special meeting Monday evening, the Randolph County Board of Education discussed the completion of Elkins Middle School modular units as well as other school maintenance issues throughout the county.
Completing the units was a "very well coordinated team effort," according to Terry George, assistant superintendent of secondary education. Students were allowed to tour the units on Monday as part of their orientation. EMS principal David Roth said that more than 400 students attended events on Monday, which also included finger printing and the issuance of new student IDs.
The board asked questions regarding the bus choreography to which Roth and George replied that a system had been worked out and things should run smoothly.
"Both John and I will be out there tomorrow afternoon to see what needs tweaking," George told board members. Seniors will be released early so that their vehicles will not be in the way of buses or parent vehicles. Middle school students will be sent from their final class to their homerooms around 2:35 p.m. and allowed to board buses at 2:45 p.m. All students should be on buses after this time with the last leaving the school complex at 3 p.m.
The board attempted to tackle other issues that had been overlooked during the EMS preparations. Many of the board's concerns were that projects such as roof repairs and bathroom remodeling at other schools were not completed.
