By CARRA HIGGINS, Staff WriterAn Elkins man is incarcerated in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail after being charged with malicious wounding, a felony.
William Jennings Browning, 44, of Lavalette Avenue apparently became involved in a verbal confrontation with Bradley David Shifflett, 27, of Elkins at approximately 7 p.m. Sept. 19, according to Elkins Police Capt. J.E. Batdorf.
Shifflett was walking in the area of 13th Street and South Kerens Avenue when the verbal confrontation with Browning turned into a physical confrontation, Batdorf said.
Browning allegedly used a utility knife to cut Shifflett's right shoulder, Batdorf said. After the confrontation, Shifflett walked to a friend's home on Ferndale Avenue to notify authorities, Batdorf explained.
Officers went to Browning's home and he admitted to cutting Shifflett, however Browning stated it was in self defense, according to Batdorf. Authorities recovered the weapon from Browning's home, Batdorf said.
Browning was arraigned by a Randolph County magistrate and is being held on a $100,000 cash or surety bond.
