Upshur Woman Dies in Crash

A Buckhannon woman was killed after a single-vehicle accident in Upshur County early Friday.

According to a prepared statement from the Upshur County Sheriff's Department, the accident occurred on county Route 13, the Hall Road, around 2:50 a.m. . Killed in the accident was Mary Jean Delauder, 27, of Buckhannon.

Police said Delauder was traveling east on Hall Road when she went off the shoulder of the roadway and struck a mailbox. According to police, it appeared she overcorrected when pulling back onto the roadway, again traveled off the road and struck a tree.

The accident was investigated by Deputy 1st Class Theron Caynor and Sgt. Marshall Powers of the Upshur County Sheriff's Department. Also responding to the scene were Upshur County EMS, the Buckhannon Fire Department and the Warren District Fire Department. The accident is still under investigation.
