Forgive! Forgive! Forgive! and Then – Forget!

October 11, 2008
By The Rev. Harold A. Langevin Jr., Senior Pastor of the Ellamore Charge of the United Methodist Church

In Matthew 18:21-35, Jesus tells the parable of the unmerciful servant. This parable tells of the need we each have to forgive those who have done us wrong. Peter came to Jesus and asked him, "How many times are we to forgive someone who has sinned against me? Up to seven times?" Jesus answered, "I tell you, not seven times, but 77 times." How willing are we to forgive that person who has sinned against us. And even if we are willing to forgive that person, are we willing to forget?
