God’s Paintbrush

October 25, 2008
By The Rev. H.D. Jones, Faith Baptist Chapel in Beverly

As I gaze upon the beautiful mountains of Randolph County in their autumn splendor, I can just imagine our father with his paint brush so gloriously painting the majestic mountains to a perfection only he can create. I can just see him dabbling a little red here, a little orange there and adding a dusting of gold. The beautiful hues and the rich textures are all so richly vibrant as his sun shines on them and brings them to their peak.

As I continue to gaze upon the mountains, I am reminded of how our father so delicately, and sometimes not so delicately, takes his paint brush to our lives. He adds touches of love, joy and peace at times. Sometimes he reaches down and gently holds us as he permits suffering and hardships to enter our lives. All of this comes together to enable us to reach our fullest potential and splendor. Just as the sun shines on the leaves and brings them to their peak, the son shines on our lives and brings us to our full potential.

Autumn is indeed a time of change that compels us to stop and savor it's changes. We bask in its beauty and contemplate the blustery winter to come with the anticipation of snow men, sledding, skiing and the celebration of the birth of Christ. Just as autumn is a time of change and anticipation for the mountains, I trust that it will be a time of change and anticipation for you. Allow God to make changes in your life and anticipate the wondrous results only he can accomplish. My prayer for you today is that you allow God to take his paint brush to your life so that you can reach your full potential and anticipate and rejoice in the splendor of a greater you as a result of being painted with his paint brush.
