Randolph Board Begins Hinzman’s Review

By ANTHONY GAYNOR, Staff Writer
POSTED: November 18, 2008

The Randolph County Board of Education on Monday began its annual evaluation of Superintendent Sue Hinzman and came out of the closed door session with plans to continue the discussion next month.

"The evaluation cannot be discussed with anyone outside executive session unless I give permission," Hinzman said after board President Ed Tyre requested an executive session.

The board spent approximately an hour in executive session and then asked Hinzman, Randolph County Schools Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education Pam Hewitt and Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education Terry George to join them.

"No decision was made," Tyre said as the board returned from executive session. "We discussed the evaluation for the superintendent and it will continue at the first meeting in December."

The meeting will be at 6 p.m. Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. in the county board office.

In other business, the board set the following graduation dates for 2009:

- Harman High School on May 30 at 7 p.m.

- Tygarts Valley High School on June 1 at 7 p.m.

- Elkins High School on June 2 at 7 p.m.

- Pickens High School on June 6 at 2 p.m.

Hinzman said Harman High School wants to have its graduation as early as possible because one of the seniors is joining the military. Hinzman said students want their classmate to be able to receive his diploma with the rest of the class.
