Canaan Opens Season on Friday

By ALEC RADER, Staff Writer
POSTED: December 10, 2008

Canaan Valley Resort is celebrating its 37th season opening on Friday and special discounts begin a day early. On Thursday, from 12:30 p.m. until 4 p.m., visitors to the resort can ski all of the open slopes for free.

"Slopes are in excellent condition," a Canaan Valley representative said. "We have snow to the top of the mountain."

During the weekend, eight of the 39 slopes will be open.

To further the opening celebration, Canaan will have reduced rates Thursday through Sunday. Visitors can stay for $37 per night. On Friday, all lift tickets are $20. Food and drink specials to celebrate the 37th anniversary will also be available during the entire weekend.

Entertainment is a must for an opening celebration and a host of games, activities and a performance by the country and rock band Dallas Reese will be provided for all visitors.

The resort offers snow tubing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and cross country skiing, an indoor pool and an ice skating rink. It was recently named one of "American's Best Parks" by Arthur Frommer's Magazine and among the "50 Great Places to Stay" by Washingtonian Magazine.

For additional information or reservations, call Canaan Valley Resort at 1-800-622-4121 or visit the Web site at www.canaanresort.com.
