60th anniversary

Violet and Bill Corder of Junior recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

They were married June 10, 1949, in Elkins by the Rev. Warner DuBose Jr.

Mrs. Corder is the daughter of the late Opal and Waldo Proudfoot. She retired from her position as director of Catholic Community Services in 1994.

Mr. Corder is the son of the late Hazel Corder Norman and Don Corder. He retired in 1989 from the Barbour County Board of Education as a teacher at the Philip Barbour Vocational Center.

They are the parents of two children, Linda Louise Coleman and husband, Chuck, and Bill Corder Jr. and wife, Julia. They have three grandsons, Douglas William Coleman, Matthew William Corder and Eric Michael Corder; and three great-grandchildren, Sarah and Jacob Coleman and Kaleb Corder.

Their family surprised them with a dinner at Barb's Restaurant. After dinner, they went to the home of Bill and Julia, where they had an anniversary cake and were presented with a large scrapbook, "60 Years of Memories." They spent the afternoon visiting and playing with their new great-grandson, Kaleb. Present to congratulate them were Chuck and Linda Coleman, Doug Coleman, Jacob and Sarah Coleman, Nita Coleman, Bill and Julia Corder, Matthew Corder, Sarah and Kaleb and Sunny Austin.
