The Elkins Babe Ruth 15-year-old All-Stars will begin state tournament play today at Ceredo-Kenova Middle School.
Elkins advanced to the state tournament after posting a 7-6 win over Taylor County in the District 1 championship game last Saturday at Robin Harvey Memorial Field.
Elkins will battle either Huntington Southeastern or Clarksburg today at 5 p.m.
Huntington Southeastern and Clarksburg faced off on Thursday night. Beckley and host team Ceredo-Kenova also played on the opening day of action.
The championship round will run through Saturday with the title game scheduled for 1:30 p.m. A possible Game 2 is slated for 4 p.m.
"We are going to need to hit the ball well during the state tournament," said Elkins coach Chris Broughton. "I think our pitching will do well, they just need to be on track and throw strikes."
"If we can continue to play like we did in the district tournament, we should be in good shape."
The winner of the state tournament will move on to regional play in Illinois.
