CEREDO - Brandon Purkey pitched a complete-game shutout to lead Harrison County Nationals past Elkins 2-0 Friday in the second day of the 15-year old Babe Ruth state tournament at Ceredo-Kenova Middle School.

Purkey scattered four hits, while walking none and striking out six for the Nationals.

Ben Williams had three hits and scored a run to lead Harrison County at the plate.

John Koon added two hits, while Ben Kiger had a run-producing double for Harrison County.

Scott Fox took the loss for Elkins in seven innings of work. Fox gave up nine hits, while striking out 16 Harrison County batters.

Tyler Bedford had two hits to lead Elkins at the plate. Ryne Bonnell and Brennan Dettinger had the other hits for Elkins (0-1), who will play the Huntington Southeastern-Beckley winner today at 4 p.m.
